The outside of this round house is gray
cedar siding. Re-staining was done in 2006 and should last at
least a decade. Surrounding half of the structure are two
stories of decking which provide panoramic views of the
Chincoteague Bay and nearby islands.
The entire structure is capped by a nearly new
(2004) bituminous asphalt roof with a 15 year guarantee. There
are no shingles to blow off and all seams are heat sealed.
A screened porch is on the south side of the top
floor. The porch looks out on Chincoteague Bay and Island--An
ideal location for sunset watching and year-around barbeques.
The porch may be entered either from the Great Room or deck.
On the first level of decking, only a couple of
steps from the lower floor’s entryway, is a portable soft sided
SofTub Spa. This hot tub holds 300 gallons of water and can
be easily relocated if desired. The motor is housed externally
and so may be easily detached and inexpensively shipped by UPS
for service if necessary. SofTubs offer all the benefits of a
hot tub/spa with easy maintenance and few, if any, problems.
The ground level has a concrete pad under the house and
three storage rooms. One room houses the air handler of the heat
pump but also has two sets of shelving; another is under the
stair-well and houses the generator; and, the third is available
for additional storage or a workshop.
Because of the dry landscaping (gravel and
shells) there is plenty of off street parking. Four to five cars
easily fit in front of the house while the back and sides of the
house can accommodate two boat trailers with boats. It is
possible to park a small trailer, such as those for jet skis,
canoes, and small boats, under the house between pilings
Where the lot joins the canal,
just steps from the house, there is bulkheading and a boardwalk
from one side of the lot to the other. On the bulkhead is a fish
cleaning station and room to launch small craft. At the bulkhead
is also a 5,000 lb electric boat lift.
The adjoining lot is also for sale. The lot
adjoins the home’s lot on the north and has grass covered level
ground. That lot is bulkheaded which can provide another site
for boat docking, crabbing, etc. The adjoining lot may be
purchased in conjunction with the house for an additional
fee.
