Boating
The property has a 5000 lb boat lift and is located on a 4
ft deep navigable canal that joins the Chincoteague Bay
approximately 500 feet from its bulkhead. Once in the Bay,
boaters have the entire Bay from Ocean City to Chincoteague
Island to explore PLUS access to the open ocean. A Coast
Guard marked channel leading to the Atlantic Ocean is only ½
mile from the home’s bulkhead.

Fishing

This home is located in the heart of a fisherman’s paradise.
Fishing opportunities abound from crabbing off your own
bulkhead in front of the house to going to deep water for
the ocean’s tuna, marlin, and even shark. On Chincoteague
Bay, you can focus on summer’s flounder, croaker, trout,
spot, and sea bass populations or, if you prefer, the cooler
months' bring rock fish/striped bass runs. In case that’s
not enough fishing in your own “backyard”, the avid
fisherman can always work the nearby fresh water streams for
yellow and white perch or trailer 30-40 miles west to mine
the riches of the Chesapeake Bay. Go to
Seahawk Sports
for a wealth of information on outdoor sports. |
| |
Golf

The community where the home is located has a newly designed
3500 yard nine hole golf course. The course is playable to
18 holes because each hole has two tee boxes in different
locations. This makes for a challenging course and also
provides the variety of a full sized 18 hole course. There
are an abundance of water and/sand traps laid out on rolling
terrain. The course has a full time manager, pro shop, and
cart rental, and sponsors leagues, events, and clinics for
all levels of players. |

Bird & Wildlife Observation

The property is located on the Eastern Flyway, a north-south
route for more than 300 avian species including over 80
species that nest in the area. Eagles, ospreys, and many
other raptors; waterfowl including snow geese and ducks of
all varieties; as well as many song birds find acres of
undeveloped land and undisturbed waters as well as bountiful
food supplies. Because of the mix of coastal and inland
habitat, birders are constantly treated to a changing array
of sightings. Many organized birding events are held at
nearby Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and all over
the Eastern Shore. Most anyone who puts out a bird feeder or
has an inexpensive pair of binoculars will be entertained by
birds all year round. |
| |
Hunting

Marksmen have heydays in the fall and winter. Many varieties
of waterfowl are taken from boats, blinds, and the
shoreline. Those more inclined to inland hunting go after
deer, doves, quail, and wild turkey. Most hunt on their own
or with friends but there are a number of very good local
guides available for hire. |
| |
Swimming
With water everywhere, it is easy to find a place to swim.
Saltwater swimming may be done at nearby Assateague Island’s
National Seashore Beach or from boats in the Chincoteague
Bay. For those less adventurous, the Captain’s Cove
community has two new lifeguarded pools. There is also YMCA
with an array of sporting activities and an indoor pool in
Pocomoke City just 12 miles away. |

Beach
The major ocean beach is the Assateague Island National
Seashore Beach. This beach has lifeguards in the summer
months and offers a natural beach experience without the
commercialism often experienced at other beaches. Sunning,
sand castle building, swimming, beach combing, surf fishing,
body surfing, boogie boarding, and people watching are the
major activities there. This beach and its adjoining
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge are the most visited
in the entire National Parks and Wildlife Refuge and
systems. Beach goers seeking shops will find them in the
town on Chincoteague Island as well as only 40 miles away in
Ocean City, Maryland--the Mid-Atlantic’s famous resort area.
